There wes something wrong with my son's feet when he wes born .The doctors told us that with treatment he would be able to walk normally-but would never run very well.
By the time he was eight ,you wouldn't know he had a problem when you saw him walk.We never tod him that he probably wouldn't be able to run as well as the other children.So he didn't know.and when the children in our neighborhood ran around ran around,Joey woild jump right in run and play,too.
In the seventh grade he decided to go out for the cross-coubtry team.Every day he trained with the team.He workef haeder and ran more than any of the orhers.Although the whoie team ran,He worked harder and ran more than of the others.Although the whole team ran,only the top seven runners could win.
He continued to run five miles a day,every day-even the day he had a high fever.I was worried,so I went to look for him after sxhool.I found him running all alone.I asked him how he felt."Okay",he said.He had about two miles to go.The sweat ran down his face.Yet he looked straight ahead and kept running.
Two weeks later,the names of winners were known.Joey was number six on the list.Joey had made it.He was in the seventh grade-the other six tean menbers were all in the eighth grade.We never told him he shouldn't expect to win.But he made it.
