However, there's a way, a wine tasting technique that might let you get some of your money's worth out of that expensive bottle of wine. And that is the fact that a wine, you can sense a wines flavor and taste and maybe even aroma and tactile sensation on your pallet long after you've swallowed it. Wine is not the beverage for drinking or slugging or plunking down, you want to take it nice and slow. You can talk about a wines aroma and flavor, but then after you swallow, exhale through your nose, you should always swallow the wine and then exhale through your nose, and then sit back and enjoy the wines finish. There's two things about a wines finish, number one is its length. The length of the wine is how long the tactile or maybe aromatic or taste sensations last, in your head, on your mouth, maybe even in your chest after you've swallowed. A good wine should have a long lingering, or persisting finish of at least ten seconds, that will keep you from drinking it too quickly. A wine can also be good and have a short finish of three seconds or less, but a good wine will have a lingering finish of more than ten seconds. If it's between three and ten seconds, it's considered medium, and you can find that in a nice wine too. After you've described the wines length, you probably want to talk about some way of describing the after taste. Now the after taste might be exactly the same as the wine was when you first tasted it, it might be fruity or spicy or smooth. On the other hand, you might have a total surprise, like the ending is totally different that the beginning and middle, in which case you have a nice surprise of spice or a little fill up of lemon at the end of the wine. And if you take your time to relax and notice it, it'll add to your enjoyment of the wine.
