stand in the
stand in the
In British English we talk about goods being in a shop window. This refers to the display area behind the glass.
A window-dresser could be standing in the window.
再问: 原句是:When my work was busy,I stood in the window and waved at the passengers who looked up and this made me laugh.
再答: 一般都会选择by或者at, 正因为in极其罕见所以网上讨论比较多。这里节选点评论, If you stand at a window, I think you're looking out or in. If you stand by a window, I think you're near it, but not necessarily looking out or in. If you stand in a window, I think you're a poet trying to be creative, because no one else would do that. To me, "standing in the window" is fine so long as the following conditions are met: 1) The subject is standing near the window. 2) The subject is distinct from the viewer. 3) The subject and the viewer are on opposite sides of the window, with the subject inside the building and the viewer outside it. I would only use in the window if there were a structure at the window that one could actually be in. Bay windows and store display windows are the most obvious candidates. One might have flowers "in the window" if they were on the sill of an ordinary window, and cat sitting on the window sill would be "in the window." I guess a person also could sit on the sill and be "in the window."
