With these frequent accidents, the structural collapse has become a serious threat to public safety.
According to China current "Code of Design of Concrete Structures" GB50010 Clause 3.1.6: "The structures shall have the integral stability, the local damage of structure shall not lead to collapse of wide scope". However, this code just explains this clause simply, but without detailed design method and standard, so it lacks in operability.
Currently, some major foreign standards have specified how to improve the progressive-collapse-resistance capability, such as British Standard, Eurocode 1 and NBCC.
The "Progressive Collapse Analysis and Design Guidelines for New Federal Office Buildings and Major Modernization Projects" (GSA 2003) compiled by United States General Service Administration and the "Design of Structures to Resist Progressive Collapse" compiled by Department of Defense (DoD 2005) have stated in detail the design method and procedure for progressive collapse resistance.
