Yes, people should return to live in small towns as long as they are able to commute to big cities and work there. Most people love the peaceful and simple life in small towns. One of the major reasons for them to leave is that they cannot find a job there. As described in Theodore Dreiser’s novel, Sister Carrie had to leave her small town to find a job in Chicago. When she encountered trouble in the big city, she planned to go back. But, she knew she could not find any jobs there, so she had to stay in the big city. That happened a hundred years ago. Ever since then, much has been changed in the way to commute, which has made it possible for people to get a job in big cities, while living in small towns around. Big cities like Shanghai and New York have built good infrastructures like subways, light rails and freeways. More people should live in small towns in the rural areas as many others are doing. In this way, the big cities themselves will have more space for business and all kinds of pollution will be reduced. Meanwhile, the cities will be able to offer more jobs since there is more business. Security is one more important reason for people to live in small towns. As we all know, the crime rates are much higher in big cities than those in small towns. If people live in a community where people know each other, criminals will be scared away. Therefore, people should return to live in small towns. It is not only for their health but also for their security and for the business in big cities.
