Today, people all live in an almost equal society, still,we are fighting for more equality and rights.what we gain today is actually based on the hardwork and even life of our ancestors.Looking back in the history,it’s not difficult to find many civil-rights heroes who have devoted their whole life to the revolution for the liberation of us offsprings.
The Freedom Givers depicts several pictures of how the heroes gave freedom to the fugitives. Not only slaves, but also white people joined the secret underground railroad to help the slaves escape from the Americcan South to freedom.Josiah Henson and John Parker used to be slaves themselves and therefore had deeply suffered from the slavery. After they themselves got freedom, they flung themselves into the great free-slave action.White conductor who was driven by religious convictions that all man are created equal also risked their lives to help the slaves.Coffin provided the fugitives with his house as a refuge.Three principal routes coverged at his house at last and came to be the Grand Central Terminal of the Underground Railroad. For their efforts, they all received frequent death threats and warnings and one courageous Methodist minister,Ca;vin Fairbank, was even imprisoned for more than 17 years in Kentucky during which he got a beatings of 35,105 stripes with the whip.
Though the conductors were very much loathed by the government and slave owners, they were appreciated and trusted by the escaping slaves.and even today they are very much honored. In October 2000,President Clinton authorized $16 million for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center to honor this first great civil-rights struggle in the U.S.It is all because the persistent fight that has adjusted the unfair society a little bit.And we should always bear in mind that the equality comes not easy and should stick to it.
The Underground Railroad Center was somehow 1 to 2 centuries ago and people might not be familiar. But I believe that most people today know the great civil-rights fighter well. That is Lr.Martin Luther King. His efforts on fighting for equality for negroes was very much appreciated and honored not only the black but also the whole society. His spirit encouraged later generations to stand up for themselves. His great contribution also wons him Nobel Price for Peace. He was most famous for his speech I Have a Dream. In the speech, audience could feel the soul of this great lecturer. He gave black people a firm conviction that all men are created equal and therefore they should fight for equal rights.Though he was assassinated,he reached a magnificent success in American history because his effort worked quite well.
To get equality and other civil rights needs a lot of energy and sacrifice. But with a conviction we can overcome any difficulty in the process and win the final success.
