快递业是当今发展较快的产业.快递服务作为一种先进的邮递和运输服务方式,于二十世纪七十年代末进入我国,随着中国经济持续繁荣和对外贸易的快速增长,快递服务不仅越来越受到社会各阶层客户的普遍欢迎,还与信息技术和互联网发展相结合,成为电子商务实现实物配送的主要途径.由于快递业是一个新兴的行业,在世界上任何一个国家都尚未列入国民经济统计系统.近两年,我国快递行业发展迅速,随着中国加入WTO后中国的经济平稳快速发展,中国目前快递市场规模已经达到200多亿元,而且每年还在以超过30%的速度增长.主要分布在以上海、广州、深圳、北京为核心的长江三角洲、珠江三角洲和华北经济圈.中国快递市场丰厚的利润回报率、庞大的市场潜力,较低的进入壁垒,吸引了国内外众多同行业企业和行业外潜在进入者的目光.外资快递企业不断的进入中国,尤其是全球快递行业的四大巨头,联邦快递、敦豪、天地快运、联合包裹等在中国不断参与合资、并购或独资,给我国现有的快递企业前所未有的挑战.然而机遇与挑战并存,快运快递企业唯有增强自身竞争力,使自身做大做强,才是快递企业迎接挑战的有利工具.
我国目前快递企业高度分散.目前国内大小快递企业存在3万多家,仅上海就有6000多家.而美国的物流公司有9000多家,日本只有1000多家.
目前,我国快递业出现了国营、民营、外资多经济主体、多运输方式相互竞争的市场状况.分析指出分布于我国的快递公司主要有四个层次,第一就是外资快运快递行业,包括联邦快递、敦豪、天地快运、联合包裹等大跨国公司,对于这些企业来说,丰富的经验、雄厚的资金以及完善的全球网路而使其拥有强大的竞争实力.第二就是我国一些国有大快递公司,包括中国邮政、民航快递(CAE)、中铁快运(CRE)、中外运等,这些企业以其背景优势和完善的网路而在中国的快运行业处于优势地位.第三层次就是大通快递(EAS)、北京的宅急送,上海的申通快递公司、深圳顺丰等一些民营大中型快递公司,这些公司占据着一些地方市场,同时以一些城市为中心向其他地区渗透.第四就是一些小型民营企业,目前管理比较混乱,这些速递公司以其规模小、成本低、体制灵活、对市场需求的快速反应,而占据了当地一定的市场份额,往往以同城快递和省内快递位元主要营利方式.
我国的物流及快运快递行业已于2005年12月1日开始完全对外放开,外资巨头的进入,更加加剧了我国快递行业的竞争,同时也直接对我国的民营快递企业构成了威胁.近而极有可能影响到我国快递行业未来的格局.

Express delivery service is one of the faster growing modern industries in recent years. As an advanced postal delivery and transportation method, express delivery service founded in China in the seventies in 20th century. Benefited from the stable growth of Chinese economic, the steady increase of foreign trade, and the recent application of information technology and internet services, EDS gained its popularity among various costumers with diverse background and became the major delivery method among electronic commerce. Due to the fact that express delivery is a relatively new industry, it has not accounted in the domestic economical statistical systems in any country yet.In the last two years, express delivery service developed rapidly. As a result of China’s active participation in WTO and the constantly economic boom of China, express delivery service is estimated having a yearly gross of 20 billion yuan (RMT) and expected to have 30% growth in the upcoming years.
Express delivery service markets are mainly distributed in various economic centers, including Changjiang Delta (centered in Shanghai), Zhujiang Delta (centered in Guangzhou and Shenzhen), and Huabei Economic Circle (centered in Beijing). Because of the various benefits express delivery market in China offers – its tremendous investment-reward ratio, huge market potential, and low entry barrier, many corporations – domestic companies, multinational, and other possible hidden investors – showed their interests for the market. Foreign express service multinational, particularly the four major global express service giants: FedEx, DHL, World Express, and UPS, have already began their investment in the Chinese market. Their investment includes establishing express joint ventures, merging with already existed express service companies, and solely investing their Chinese branches. Their participations in the Chinese express service market represent unprecedented challenges However, as challenges represents, so does opportunities. The only solution for existing express companies to overcome the challenges is strengthening their own competiveness and expanding their business.
Currently, Chinese express service industry still is under conditions of severe disorder. Now, there are over 30,000 express services existed in China – 6,000 in Shanghai alone, compared to a little over 9,000 in U.S. and 1,000 in Japan.
At present, China’s express market is under the competition of various economic entities including state-owned entities, private entities, and foreign-invested entities. Transportation methods between the entities also vary. Analysis shows there are four levels of market distribution. The first level is constructed by the foreign express multinationals such as FedEx, DHL, World Express, and UPS. Those enterprises are exceptionally competitive due to their experience over their years of service, their abundant funds, and their already-established and effecient word-wide express network. The second level is constructed on stated-owned express corporations, including China Post, CAE, CRE, Sinotrans, and so on. Those state-owned corporations, benefited from their background and sound network in domestic market, also show their dominance in the industry. The third level is based on private, regional, medium-to-large sized companies, for example, EAS, Beijing ZJS Express Co, Shanghai Express Company Qualcomm, and Shenzhen Shun Feng. Those companies occupy proportion of their local market, and eventually spread their services to the nearby regions. The fourth level is formed by small-scale, private express services. Although their managements are currently a bit disorganized, they still manage to capture some market, especially inner-city and inner-state express service market, due to their small-scale of investment, low prime cost, flexibility, and their quick respond on market demands.
Started December 1, 2005, Chinese policy allows foreign multinationals invest logistics and delivery industry freely. The competition in express industry would be intensified, directly posing threat to private express service companies. As a result, it would likely to influence and change the domestic express service industrial structure in the near future.
