When people think of inventors,they often have a picture of a scientist working hard in a laboratory.However,many of the world’s inventions have been created simply by surprise. Here are two examples.Potato chips were created by George Crum,who was a cook in New York.One day,a customer complained that his French fires were too big.Crum made some thinner ones,but the man didn’t like them,either.Crum became very angry.He made a third order so thin and crisp (脆的) that the man couldn’t use his fork.But his plan didn’t word,the man enjoyed them.Tokay,these paper-thin potatoes are known as potato chips.They were made by mistake. Dr.Percy Spencer was testing out a new vacuum tube,when he noticed a candy bar in his pocket had melted.Out of curiosity (好奇心),he placed some popcorn near the tube.In a short time,popcorn was popping all over his laboratory!This gave him the idea of cooking without fire.Microwave ovens have certainly changed cooking forever.Today,almost every family can enjoy a quick got meal by using a microwave oven. So,many inventions really didn’t take hours of hard work.Next time something happens by accident,look around and think about it.Maybe there’s an invention just waiting to happen!
