My View on Buying Computers for Children in College
Computers have already been irrevocably integrated into the lives of many children of the newer generations. Wherever we are, these extravagant products of advanced technology surround us, thrive to raise our convenience, knowledge, and ultimately enhance our quality of life. Nonetheless, one question remains debatable: is buying computers for children in college the correct decision?
Some people strongly believe that college students should have full rights to their personal computers. Indeed, it is not surprising to hear that for some colleges, it is compulsory for students to bring their computers along. Computers have various functions that facilitates students’ learning, for instance, they could handily take quick notes during lengthy lectures without going through the trouble of scribbling madly on a notebook. They could prepare presentations and creative projects with the help of a computer. They could easily do complicated research, elaborate comparisons, and these helpful qualities render their high-tech assets invaluable.
Unfortunately, on the other hand, computers unavoidably serve as a major distraction. The presence of online entertainment available at the click of the mouse is simply too tempting for students, no matter what age they are. Writing in a notebook is definitely much safer compared to typing on one, especially if the ‘notebook’ has Internet linkage that immediately drives students’ attention away from the lessons they are having. It is obvious that while computers are undeniably great inventions, they are simultaneously pushing potential inventors of this generation away from a more knowledgeable future.
Although both sides have their respective arguments, I personally believe that computers should be bought for children in college. Computers are too informative to be left out in an environment that fundamentally serves to enhance students’ knowledge and strengthen their inquiry minds. Despite the fact that they may eventually become unwanted distractions, college students should be old and sensible enough to make their own judgments and have self-control over themselves. If ultimately, a college student gets addicted to his computer, it can only be his own responsibility to bear. The proposal of buying computers for children in college in itself is a completely logical and agreeable thought.
