Have you ever contemplated how often you say no?If no seems to be a word that is not even in your vocabulary,you are not alone!Most women do not like to say no to anyone.Sometimes you might feel as if you say yes to everyone other than yourself.You might feel cranky and exhausted many days of the week.
You are like most women if you are a constant people pleaser.You want to make everyone happy whether at home or at work.If you know women who often say no,you probably think they are an oddity.You are well aware that most women will take on any task that is thrown their way at work.As a woman you are trying to achieve total equality in the workplace.In fact,you probably believe if you exceed your male colleagues in the amount of hours worked,that you will finally get ahead.
Of course,you probably rarely say no at home either.It is hard to say no to your children and even your spouse.If you are a mom,you surely take on a variety of responsibilities at home no matter how many hours you work outside of the house.You probably step into the role of the household cook,seamstress,entertainer and chauffer.You play nurse when your kids are sick or your husband is ill.It is very likely that you are a teacher,an art director and a music instructor to your children.It is impossible for you to say no.You probably do not like to tell your husband to do a load of laundry or help the children with their homework.It is a rare occasion when you tell your kids to do their own school project or keep up with their chores.
If you are like most women,you also find it difficult to say no to your friends.The minute someone asks for a favor,the word yes slips out of your mouth.You are soon babysitting your best friend's children,planning a friend's Birthday party or running errands for a neighbor.
It is great strive to be superwoman.Everyone wants to be the best possible mother,wife and employee.There is a time to draw the line,however.You need to learn to say no from time to time.Saying no every now and then is not the end of the world.In fact,it is necessary to say now sometimes for your sake as well as the sake of your loved ones.
If you never say no to anyone,you are risking your health.You become stressed because of everything you try to accomplish.In time,the stress takes its toll.It is not uncommon to feel run down and to be less immune to common illnesses.Long-term stress can have more serious side affects.
When you get in the habit of never saying no,you might start to feel bitter and feel like you are losing the core of who you are in the process.If you are not happy,your children and spouse can suffer the consequences as well.
If you will not say no for yourself,try doing so for your loved ones.It is perfectly acceptable to say no from time to time.Your son's classroom party will not be any less fun if you stop and buy cookies at the store rather than baking a couple dozen from home.If your husband has to wear his blue shirt to work one day instead of his freshly pressed green shirt,the world will not come to an end.
Try to be willing to say no to some of the little things so that you are happy and well to say yes to the big things.Prioritize what you can and cannot do on any given day.No one can do everything.Tell your boss you cannot have that extra project completed within an hour.Provide him with a reasonable time frame.Tell your child that you will help them with their report due two weeks from now over the upcoming weekend.Tell yourself that you cannot complete every task in one day.
Take time out for yourself.Yes,you should schedule a little me time each and every day.This is not to say you need to disappear for hours on end,however,you can easily take fifteen minutes for yourself each day.Do not let anyone take that time away from you.Just say no for those few minutes each day.
If you learn to say no every now and then,the end result will be positive.You will feel guilty at first.Remember you are working to lower your stress levels and improve your overall health.This will benefit your family and friends.Your children might throw some tantrums.Even your husband might have one or two at first.In time,everyone will realize that you never say no to anything truly important.You still come through for your family and friends when they need you the most.
