Mike was a small boy,and he hated (不喜欢) soap (肥皂) and water.Three or four times every day his mother said to him,"Mike,your hands are very dirty again.Go and wash them." But Mike never really washed them well.He only put his hands in the water for a few seconds and then took them out again.
Mike's uncle and aunt lived in another city.One day they came to stay with Mike's parents,and they brought their small son,Ted,with them.Ted was a year younger than Mike,and he didn't like soap and water,either.
The boys sat with their parents for a few minutes,but then they went outside.When they were alone (单独的) Mike looked at Ted's hands and then said proudly (得意地) ,"My hands are dirtier than yours!"
"Of course they are," Ted answered angrily."You are a year older than I am."

Once upon a time there was a bad king.All his people hated (恨) him.One hot day,he was taking a walk along a river.It was too hot for him and he decided to swim in the river.He was a good swimmer,but after a while he suddenly felt ill in the water,and he was nearly drowned (淹死).At that time two peasants were working in the fields near the river.They came over,jumped into the water and saved (救) him.They did not know he was the king before he was out of the water.
The king was very happy.He asked them,"What do you want?You can ask for anything because you saved my life."
One of them said,"My son broke his leg last year and he can't walk.Please send him to a good doctor."
Then he asked the other peasant.The other peasant thought for a while and said,"You must do me an important thing."
"What is it?" asked the king.He thought the peasant would ask for a lot of money.
"Don't tell anyone that I saved your life," the old peasant answered.

Two young men went past the house of the mayor (市长) and caught sight of (看到) a goose (鹅) hanging inside the kitchen window.They liked the goose very much,so they thought up a plan to get the goose at night with the help of a ladder (梯子).
It was dark.They propped up (架起) a ladder and one of them climbed up the ladder.Just at that moment,a policeman got to the street corner and walked up to them,asking,"What are you doing here?"
The man holding the ladder pretended to be calm (故作镇静) and said,"Well,sir.Tomorrow will be the birthday of our mayor,you see.We wanted to make him happy and so we hung this goose in his kitchen."
"That's really nice of you," said the policeman."But why don't you do it during the day?Such a present is far from bribing (贿赂) >but what you are doing here at night is improper (不合适的)."
Obediently (顺从地) ,the young man cried upwards to his partner."Bring the goose back down,Jack!"
