This book offers a rich read, varied in both the lives and texts of the women portrayed, and the perspectives and styles of the 16 essayists. Yet as an adult, i have come to demand of any really "great" book a self-consciousness about the tenuous nature of representations of reality, a critical contextualization of florid detail, and a self-awareness of the role of ideology in our lives. in these critical senses, this book is inadequate.

这本书提供了丰富的解读,但在其描写的女人的生平和文字还有十六位散文家的观点和风格之间差异很大.但是作为一个成年人来说,我对能称之为伟大经典的书有这样的要求：能自觉到表现真实的细腻的特点（调整下就是：能够细腻地去表现一些真实东西）,对于一些华美细节做到极致的阐释,还有对我们生活中一些意识形态的自我意识.从这些关键的意义上来说,这本书是不够的.
PS我觉得mslycj翻译得很好了,语言到中文也很优美通顺,我只是攒攒人品的,我翻得应该没他好.
