Once I attened a beautiful wedding.A young couple came together in joy and the room was filled with happiness and joy.Outside of the room I noticed a group of older women sitting near the door collecting money for people in need.Then I took out 2o dollars for charity.
Later on in the evening,I went back out where they were and was hoping to have a bit of conversation with one of the ladies.I think I felt a need to be connected to their warmth.
The woman I started to talk to had beautiful,lively eyes.She told me that she came to this country 65 years ago with three children.She came out to all the weddings to collect money for charity.She was very proud of the fact that last years she collected $30,000 for poor,sick people in the country and young couples who needed money for their wedding expense.I could see that she took her job seriously with a strong feeling of excitement and interest.I was deeply touched.
Even if I shared her name with you,it would not ring a bell.Her charitable work was not a registered charity.She didn't go on TV with commercial pitches.She just came to one wedding after another,sat out in the hallways,and put a little sign asking for money for the poor,ill and young couples.Then she handed in the money to the country and started all over again.
Talking to this woman of course made her so alive and real to me as she was 90 years old when I knew her!Talking to her was for me,really the best part of my week!She made me feel happier and more hopeful!
