It is universally acknowledged that English is one of the most widely used languages in the world.Therefore,nowadays,schools pay much attention to students’ English learning,and even place the English-learning in an unprecedented important position.
In regard of this issue,different person has different opinion.English teacher says that learning English well can yield a great amount of advantages for students,similarly,parents think that English is a necessary skill that enable their children more competitive in society.On the contrary,history teacher states that English learning should not be set in an exaggerated place that makes students neglect their own language and culture,while students hold the similar idea that each subject should be paid equal attention to,only just English.
The English teacher says that learning English has a great number of advantages for students thus students should not graduate from high school without a good English score.It is true that students can benefit a lot from leaning English well.For example,they can appreciate many foreign literatures,which are wrote by great writers like Shakespeare.What is more,English is also a popular language for international business and science.As parents state that English is a useful skill,it is helpful for one to be success and be more competitive in the society if one gains a great capacity of English.Therefore,English is an important tool that need us learn it seriously.However,I don not agree that students should not graduate from high school without a good English performance.Because each student is unique,everyone has specific profiles.One of the goals for being educated at school is developing peoples’ potential and makes them have their own strength.Learning language is a skill that not everyone could have a good performance.In addition,it is not everyone that needs the skill of English to promote success in his or her career.Therefore,I think the parent’s opinion is realistic and teacher’s opinion is too extreme.
History teacher states that English learning should not be set in an exaggerated place that makes students neglect their own language and culture,while students hold the similar idea that each subject should be paid equal attention,only just English.I green with the history teacher’s opinion that a well-educated student needs ability in every subject,and we should not lost the sense of our own country,which is essential for developing the individual identity.English is important,but we should not just focus on it and neglect our own language and culture.
In conclusion,I think that English is a useful tool and bridge to connect the eastern and western world,which could allow us enjoy the western literature and culture.However,we should be equal to other subjects,and do not neglect our own language and history learning.
