The Bird of the Golden Land
There was once a king who lived with his there sons in a castle by the sea.He was a king but he was not rich.The only treasure he had was a golden crown,but he was a happy king.He loved his son very much,and from time to time,a beautiful bird came and flew around the castle,singing the sweetest song that was ever heard.
One day the king's three sons came to him and said,"Father,we should all like to get married."Can you find us each a present?"
The king was worried,because if his sons married he would have to give them each a present but he only had one golden crown.And he could not choose which son to give it to.So he said,"I will help you find wives,but first you must help me.Go out and find the beautiful bird that visits me - the bird of the Golden Land.Whoever brings me the bird will have my holden crown."
So the three sons went out to look for the bird.They walked all day and stopped at a small wooden house for the night.
In the morning,an old man,standing at the door,said to them,"I know why you are here.Come with me with the basket and the rope.Let's find a large black rock."The three sons followed him and found the rock.There was a big dark hole in it and the old man told them to go down into it.But the oldest and second oldest sons were afraid.Only the youngest son went down.It took him a long time,but when he got there,a young woman came out to greet him.
"I know where you are going,"she said."The road is long,but you can choose my best horse and he will take you there quickly."
So the youngest son thanked her and rode off.Very quickly the youngest son came to a castle,but the anfry king of the Golden Land shouted,"Ah,you are here!You want to steal away my beautiful bird.OK!Let's play a game.I will hide three times on three different days and if you lose,I'll cut your head off."The young man agreed."So,find me before the sun is down."Suddenly,the King was gone.
Early in the morning,the young man went off to look for the King.But it was very hard because he didn't know where the King was.Suddenly the horse whispered to him,"Go to the garden and look for the large red apple tree and you'll find him there."The young man did this and the King lost the first game.
The second day the King hid himself again.And again the horse woke the son up and whispered to him,"Go to the kitchen and ask for a bowl of soup.Then go to the cupbord and ask for a spoon.In there king."The young man did what he was told and found the king.But the king didn't want to hide again.He said to the young man,"Tomorrow you will hide and I will cut your head off if I find you.If I can't,I will give you my sweet bird."The young man was afraid,but went to bed.Before the young man was awake,the horse whispered again,"Don't worry.I will hide you secretiy and the king will not find you."So the horse took him to the King's garden and changed him into a bee,sitting on a flower.
