3.Project characteristcs
The microcontroller was programmed to check a pair of infrared sensors,one for top and another for the bottom levels of the hopper with the purpose of maintaining a constant supply of cacao to the machine by a three-phase electric motor activated by a contacor SIEMENS 3RT1017 (Fig.4).

The infrared sensors for monitoring the cacao level (Fig.6) consist on a pair of aligned infrared emitter and receiver,when obstructing the path between them,a change is registered by the microcontroller.It is important to mention that tests were made using wet cacao powder on the sensors and we observed that the dirt does not stick to the sensors.
All the electronics are integrated to a control panel (Fig.7),we use a 220V/24V-1A transformer as the power supply for the electronic circuit.In order to connect this transformer to the power line any pair of the three-phase wires may be chosen.

The equipment has manual and automatic modes of operation.When it’s working on manual mode,the user must supervise the operation.This modality can be used temporarily in case of any failure or maintenance procedures.
4.desing and operation
The microcontroller checks the sensors,when the cacao hopper is empty activates the coil of the contactor SIEMENS 3RT1017 with 24 VAC,the contactor is open and the three-phase motor starts,when the hopper is filled the microcontroller stops the electric motor,when the hopper is emptied one more time this operation is repeated again (Fig.7).

5.Conclusions
A simple problem was solved by a reliable and economic way.The company obtained a benefit at short and long term,by the optimization of this process,there was no waste of cacao anymore and production expenses were smaller,in addition a worker could be relocated to another sector.
